Okidata dot matrix printers are impact printers which allow the use multipart forms and paper. If you use a nonimpact printer such as an inkjet or laser printer then you would have to make a photocopy or print multiple copies raising your cost of printing. Dot matrix printers are used as form printers using multipart forms on Point of Sale (POS) systems. Okidata dot matrix printers can be purchased with a serial port which allows the printer to be connected to phone systems, smog machines, unix systems and other specialty equipment.
